PTH 59 over the Red River Floodway
Transportation for Manitoba Infrastructure
M.D. Steele was the successful bidder for the Construction of PTH 59 over the Red River Floodway. One of the few remaining structures to be completed for the floodway expansion to accommodate a 1 in 700 year flood event.
This project scope consisted of demolishing the existing structure to accommodate the two new seven span three lane bridges on PTH 59 with the addition of widening and reshaping the channel to accommodate spring flood water levels. The new bridge structures are being constructed using steel H piles, cast in place piers and abutments, precast NU girders with cast in place deck and asphalt riding surface.
Work followed an aggressive two-year schedule with many challenging aspects. Pier and foundations to be built in the winter require large and complex heating and hoarding structures. The project is currently ongoing and on schedule.
